Sharing A Moment With Gregory Peck

by Peter G. Stipe

We attended a dinner with Mr. Peck after his Conversation with Gregory Peck program on the Michigan campus in Ann Arbor. He graciously signed the 1950 Life Magazine “Twelve O’Clock High” cover for my wife. I made him a gift of a medal I’d received in the line of duty for the Ann Arbor Police Dept.

He offered me a chair and we discussed his films, his handling of audience questions at the event, and a book he was working on. It was a spellbinding talk. I received a personal thank you note from him a couple of weeks later. He was every bit the upright character he portrayed in so many films. The meeting remains among the highlights of my life.
