Later in his life, he did a series of lectures, for lack of a better word, where he reminisced and took questions from the audience. During one of these, a young man stood up in the balcony to address him. Mr. Peck immediately recognized him as someone who had served in Vietnam with his son, and was able to call him, and his wife as I recall, by name. He invited both back stage after the performance, and some of the meeting was shown in the documentary “A Conversation With Gregory Peck.” That said more to me about the man than any role he could ever have taken.
