I was present when he gave a presentation about 15 years ago in Springfield Missouri at Missouri State University (formerly Southwest Missouri State University). One of my proudest possessions is an autographed copy of the first printing of the 50th anniversary edition of To Kill a Mockingbird which he signed that night and a picture of him signing the book. In my opinion, he is definitively in the top five of actors of all times. Every one loved him as Atticus, but he played marvelous roles, i.e. Guns of Navarone; Gentlemen’s Agreement; Spell Bound. Perhaps one of his most outstanding performances was in the Boys of Brazil – best villain ever. And, lest we forget, how about Duel in the Sun. He is one of the few performers who could have read the phone book and kept you captivated by his voice alone. I would definitely place in the top five performers of any age. Thank you for his genius in setting a standard to which all actors should aspire.
