A memory that left a lasting impact

by Beverley Kinsey

I hope you don’t mind me messaging you. I wanted to tell you a story about the impact  To Kill a Mockingbird and Gregory Peck had on me. I am almost 60 years old. When I was a very young girl, my own dad told me about a film I should watch. He said ‘ it will teach you everything you need to know about the power of love and the devastation of hate’. That film was ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’. Your dad portrayed a kind, caring, but strong man with the highest sense of right and wrong, fair and unfair, and that no judgment should be made on the colour of a person’s skin. I watched that film with my dad (sadly he died far too young), but the film left a lasting impact on my own values and morals. Harper Lee wrote the story that needed to be told and your dad and the entire cast brought the words to life. It still remains my favourite film and book, and Gregory Peck still remains my favourite actor of all time! But as time has gone by, I have come to learn, much of his character was a true reflection of him. ❤️
